The Centauri Carbon Hot End Swap That Finally Worked

My take: the second replacement hot end I bought for the Elegoo Centauri Carbon is the one I’d buy again. The first one broke during install.

My Centauri Carbon clogged again. When I pulled the nozzle, it was gooped up and burnt, the kind of clog you smell before you see it. I had a spare hot end from Amazon ready, so this was supposed to be a quick swap.

It wasn’t. The first replacement was a non-original part, and its wires were thin. Pushing it into place, one of them snapped, and that hot end was done. Lesson learned: don’t cheap out on this part.

The one that worked

The second hot end dropped right in. The difference is in the wires. They’re stiffer, they connect more solidly, and the whole thing seated without a fight. Side by side, the two parts look almost identical. The build quality is where they split.

I’ve only run a short test print on it so far, and it’s printing. I can’t yet tell you whether it matches the original part’s quality long-term. But the original clogged on me fast, so that bar isn’t high.

Who it’s for

  • For: Centauri Carbon owners dealing with clogs who want a spare on the shelf.
  • Not for: anyone hoping a cheaper part will do. That’s exactly how I broke one.

I’m testing more hot ends and I’ll update this post as I go.
